Materials used:

Colourful A3 Paper, Yellow Feathers, Colourful round pom poms, Pva glue, Glue stick, Cotton balls, Blue glitter or Blue glitter paint, Markers, Pen, Different coloured paints, Paint brushes.


Time plan:

Preparation Time 10 minutes
Activity Time 30 minutes
Clean up Time 10 minutes

Room and/or equipment requirements:

An area with plenty of room and space, so you have enough room to carry out the activity.

General Aim of activity – What will the final outcome be? ie. ‘To make an aeroplane with cardboard’ box.

To create a weather chart which can be hung on the wall in the early childhood setting.


Specific Learning outcomes of the activity – What will be learned by doing the activity? Ie. ‘To use fine motor skills using the scissors’

By doing this activity the child/ren will learn how to identify the type of weather it is outside every day.
This activity will also help the child/ren to develop their pincer grip, as they will be using this grip when drawing the outline of the images for the weather chart.

Below is an umbrella and raindrops to symbolise rain on the weather chart.

  The sun created using yellow feathers and yellow crepe paper.

The snowman, created with paint, cotton balls as snow, and colourful pom pom balls.

  The cloud made from cotton balls, with marker around the cloud as if it were birds.

How will the child/ren benefit from the activity?

This activity will benefit the child/ren as they will be learning how to identify the different types of weather they experience each morning when coming into the setting.
This activity will benefit the child/ren as they will be developing their communication skills as they will be socialising and working alongside their peers when carrying out the activity, and furthermore will be discussing what type of weather they think it is outside.
This activity will also benefit the child/ren as they can think creatively, as to how they will create and decorate the images, e.g. umbrella, cloud.
