Star Constellation: mapping support activity

 Star Constellation and family mapping

Star constellations are collections of stars that are connected to each other. In this activity the stars represent the self at the centre and the people who are connected to you. Who are your collections of stars?

OR Family mapping activity:

  • Map out your family using different styles of lines to represent the relationships between you and them.

The Star Constellation activity is based on the image of star plough.

Some meanings attached to the symbol of a Star: Christian meaning, horoscopes, somebody special, bright and shiny, and achievement. What other symbolic meaning can you think of?

Are some stars brighter  or dimmer than others? Are some stars near or far away? Are some stars larger  or smaller than others? We are all connected in lots of ways. How do you see these connections? Strong or weak? Beneficial or destructive?

 Birth order: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_order

How important are the people in your life to you? Are they close to you or are they far way?

We are all part of families but how do we see them? Sibling love or rivalry? Family ties? Roles we play?

We all have friends. How do we see them? A support or not? Old friends or new? Lots or a select few?

Thanks to the students who have agreed to have their work included here.
Use a box of small toys to allow a person to choose an object to represent a family member - symbol of the person.

Example: Using the toys the person has mapped out the relationships to mam, dad and baby brother.
