Paper Quilt of Practice" – Reflective Ending Activity

🎓 "Paper Quilt of Practice" – Reflective Ending Activity

31st March 25

Materials: A3 paper (one sheet per student folded into squares), pens or pencils
Duration: 20–30 minutes
Purpose: Reflect on personal learning, celebrate group growth, and create a visual representation of collective insights.

🌀 Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Set the Scene (2–3 min)
Invite the students to reflect on their journey  — what they’ve learned, how they’ve grown, and what they’re taking into their future social care practice.
  2. Create a Personal Quilt Square (10–12 min)
Ask each student to fold or lightly mark their A4 page into four sections and complete the following prompts:
    • 🔍 Top left: One key concept or insight they’ve learned.
    • Top right: A moment of connection or care they’ll remember.
    • 🌱 Bottom left: A personal strength they’ve discovered or developed.
    • 🌈 Bottom right: A hope or intention for their future practice.

In the centre of the page, ask them to write or decorate their initials — this will represent them in the final paper quilt.

Encourage creative expression — they can write, doodle, or use simple symbols.

  1. Sharing in Pairs or Small Groups (5–7 min)
Invite students to share their quilt square with a partner or in small groups, reflecting on any common themes or surprising insights.
  2. Assemble the Paper Quilt (5–8 min)
Bring everyone together. Ask students to place their individual pages in a grid on the floor or table, with the initials facing up at the centre of each sheet.
This forms a collective “quilt” of learning and growth.
  3. Closing Circle (2–3 min)
Form a circle around the quilt. Invite each student to say a word or phrase that sums up their experience or how they’re feeling.
