Pom Pom Popper 

Materials used:
Plastic cups, balloons, pom poms, scissors, 

Time plan: 
Plan: 5 minutes 
Activity: 20 minutes
Clean up: 5 minutes 

Room and/or equipment requirements:
On a clean table 

General Aim of activity – What will the final outcome be? ie. ‘To make an aeroplane with cardboard’ box.
To make a pom pom popper 

Specific Learning outcomes of the activity – What will be learned by doing the activity? Ie. ‘To use fine motor skills using the scissors’ 
Enhance their use of fine motor skills
Teamwork 
Communication skills will be improved. 

Steps for making or doing activity:
Use images with short captions 
Cut the bottom of the cups off. Tie a not at the end of the balloon and cut of some balloon from the other end. Stretch the balloon over the end of the cup and secure with an elastic band. Now place the pom pom inside the cup on the knotted center. 

How will the child/ren benefit from the activity? 
The child/ren will benefit the use of fine motor skills by using the scissors to cut the cups.
The will improve their teamwork skills as they will be working with others.
Communication skills will be improved because they will be talking to their peers throughout the activity.

5-6 year olds 

How would you make the activity more inclusive? Principles of universal design 

How would you adapt the activity to suit outside/inside? 
This activity would suit outdoors and you could fire the poms poms all around outside and you could also use marshmallows. 

Simplify this activity:
To simplify this activity I would have the balloons cut and the cups cut for the child/ren

Variations for the activity: How could you vary the activity? ‘Marbling using foam or egg whites instead’
Instead of using pom poms you could use marshmallows
