Final activity: Group work
Name of Activity:
The names of our activities were hand prints with the big tree and Glass Jar Painting.
Aim of Activity:
As a group we tried out different activities and thought that these two were the most suitable. Our aim was for participates to enjoy themselves while doing the activity. The aim was for the participates to be able to complete the activities, first they had to draw out their hand prints, design and then cut them out. The aim for the second activity was for the participants to paint the glass jars according to how they wished. We wanted all involved to feel comfortable and to have fun while completing the activities. We also hoped that everyone would get the chance to try both activities if they wished to.
Materials used:
Activity 1:
Large sheet of paper, sheets of paper, glue, scissors, markers and colouring pencils and other paper materials.
Activity 2:
Glass jars, paint brushes, paint, and old newspapers to protect the table.
Instructions:
Activity 1:
Paper was handed out to all participating and clear instructions were given to trace the outline of both hands. The next step was to colour the hands either using markers or colouring pencils. Old waste paper was used as the trunk of the tree, this was glued down onto the large sheet of paper, and we had the background of the paper painted to look like a sky done in advance. When the handprints were cut out after the design they were then glued onto the tree to represent the leaves of the tree. We cut more waste paper materials and used them for the grass, leaves and birds.
Activity 2:
Firstly old newspaper was put down on the table to protect the table. There was jars of water in the centre of the table for the paintbrushes. Everyone that was participating in the activity got a glass jar. With the paint provided each person had to paint their glass jar according to how they wanted to. This was an individual activity and once the glass jars were finished drying each person was then able to bring them home.
Outcomes:
After we finished the class session with the participants from St.Hildas I felt as though we as a group achieved all of our aims. The majority of the participants came across as they were comfortable with us. We all engaged with the participants and helped them individually when/if was needed. We used name tags so everyone knew who was who, we also wore name tags so they would know our names. Everyone got to complete one activity and some had the time to complete the two activities. Our overall aim was achieved when we got positive feedback from the participants when they were leaving.
Evaluation of activity from group:
Our group felt that the activities went very well and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We were very organised as a group as we went in a bit earlier to set up the two stations and decide who was going to be at what station. Extra participants joined the group that we were unaware about joining, but we had extra jars along with other materials and were able to accommodate them comfortably into the activities. With the positive feedback we got when they were leaving we hope that they did truly have a good day. If we were to do this again I don’t feel as though I would make any changes as everything went very smoothly.
Cost:
These items didn’t cost anything as we collect the recycled jars from home, for the rest of the materials they were in the art room.
