Start with the Questions - The project approach

Aim: to begin the process of exploring the world of the child through the questions they ask.
Objectives: To use the white boards to brainstorm Questions

Stay with the process!!! Keep asking questions and the activities will emerge.

The project approach is about supporting the young child by offering an avenue for asking inquiring and inquisitive questions. The process of learning is whats important here. By listening and encouraging questioning about the world the child grows in confidence and can see how most questions can be explored and hopefully answered. The project approach is a partnership between the child, the group and the educator.

Example: 'Weather' then 'Rain' 'Where does the water go when it falls from the sky?'
Activities:
  • Pouring water onto the ground outside
  • Creating a layer of different soils in a perspex container that allows the child to 'see' where the water goes.
  • Draw a diagram
  • Ask the children to draw what is beneath their feed using their imagination.
  • Create a layered cake and pour coloured syrup  on top and let it seep through
