Ice Breaker – Friendship Bracelet:

For the ice-breaker we decided to make friendship bracelets out of beads, coloured pasta and string. Music of the clients choice was played as the bracelets were passed around the circle allowing each client to contribute to each bracelet. When the music stopped the bracelet was passed to the next person and as the music played the clients embroidered the bracelets as they wished. At the end of the activity the bracelets were returned to their initial owner with a contribution from each group member - metaphorically bringing the group together as one.

 Aims and objectives:

·         Promote interpersonal (listening and cooperating)
·         To encourage social interaction.
·         To enjoy the activity.
·         Develop motor skills.
·         To bring the group together as a unit – physically & psychologically
·         To make all service users comfortable in preparation for the main activity

Main activity – T-Shirt Design:

For the main activity we asked the clients to bring a white t-shirt each. We placed a piece of cardboard in-between each t-shirt so that the paint did not go through. We also gave aprons and non-latex gloves (taking allergies into account) to the clients. The clients used sponges, fabric paint, markers and stencils to create an individual t-shirt and we used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.
Aims and objectives:

·         For the service users to have fun and explore their creative side.
·         For the service users to gain confidence, autonomy, self-expression and a sense of inclusion.
·         That the team experience dealing with people with intellectual disabilities and be aware of adapting art facilitations to suit the service users.
·         For the team to learn how to work as a unit and be able to facilitate real service users unlike the facilitation we did last year with our peers.
·         To empower participants to explore their creativity.
·         To engage participants in an activity that raises their imaginations.
·         To provide an opportunity to be creative in a fun environment.
·         To engage in social interaction.
·         For the service users to be able to express their individuality by designing their own t-shirt which they can keep and wear in the future giving them a sense of pride and accomplishment
