Weaving with Fabric

Weaving with old fabric in an old box

All you need:

  • An old box; fruit boxes are strong and tough
  • Old clothes, cut into strips
  • Sharp knife/scissors to cut out square in box
  •  Wool or twine

Great for reusing old fabric or clothes

  1. Cut  out a square in the centre of the box
  2. Cut a number of holes at the top and the bottom and weave the twine or wool
  3. Weave the scraps of fabric between the twine or wool; under and over to create layer upon layer.
  4. Push the fabric tight together to create a tight weave

The Kids loved this and it helped them to see the potential of all materials for re-use.
What other ideas do you have?
Perhaps weaving large? Between the trees in a forest? what about between the children legs? Keep it fun and they will love learning!
