Body Island Artwork

 Body Island Artwork

Group work:

AIM:

To produce a piece of Art work by a group that uses the body as a template.

Objectives
To use the parts of the body as a inspiration for creating art work
To offer opportunities for group work; discussion, negotiation, decision making, planning, creative action and evaluation.
To develop group and individual creative skills

The Body is a wonderful resourse for inspiring artwork. Drawing around the shape of the whole body, hands, feet etc offers opportunities to draw but without the risk of failing to be a 'good drawer'.
Engaging with the shapes offers opportunities to develop ideas and apply different processes; collage, paint, and junk materials. Relatively few resources are required and the engagement or ownership can be high.
Personal development and therapeutic approaches can be in the areas of, for example; body image, identity, group cohesion, cultural belonging, and political views, to name a few.
Variations on the idea:
  • Chalk on a footpath
  • Paint a mural
  • Cardboard cutouts
  • Using a projector and shadow to create shapes

Step 1. Outline the body of one of the members of the group.
Step 2. The group decide the theme and use a variety of materials; magazines, new papers and junk materials.
