Facilitation 2nd year- Candle Holder & Canvas

Activity 1
Name of Activity: Candle Holder
Aim of Activity: To make a candle holder out of recycled tuna tins and pegs.

Materials Used: (Per participant)
Tuna tins
Tea light candles (Glass)
Clothes pegs (24)
Sticker diamonds
Instructions:
1. Get a clean tuna tin, ensure label is off and ensure the inside is dry and clean.
2. Place clothes pegs on the edge of the tuna tin until the edge of the tuna tin is completely covered, make sure there are no spaces between the pegs and they are neatly placed.
3. Decorate the candle holder with the sticky diamonds in any way desired.
4. Place the glass tea light candle into the tuna tin and the activity is then completed.

Outcomes:
After this activity was completed the participants achieved making a candle holder for them to use.  They achieved using and developing their creative and imaginative skills when decorating the candle holder. As a group we achieved using good communication skills and good team work skills while carrying out the activity.
Evaluation of activity from group:
As a group we thought that this activity went well, it was quick and easy for all the participants and there was no difficulties encountered when carrying out this activity.

Activity 2
Name of activity: Canvas
Aim of activity: To make a bunch of flowers out of different materials and stick them to a canvas.

Materials used: Canvas
Egg boxes (Cut and painted)
Pom-poms
Ribbon
String/pipe cleaners
Glue (PVA)
Instructions:
1. Using PVA glue stick the pre cut egg boxes onto the canvas in any desired pattern by placing glue on the bottom of the egg shapes.
2. Put PVA glue on the back of the string/pipe cleaners and stick them onto the canvas under the egg shapes so it looks like the stems of the flowers.
3. Place PVA glue on the bottom of the pom-poms and stick them into the centre of the egg shapes.
4. Get a ribbon, place it flat on the table, take the right side of the ribbon bending it over in to the centre and secure it with glue, taking left side of the ribbon and bend it over into the centre also securing it with glue.
5. Put PVA glue on the back of the ribbon and finally place the ribbon in the middle of the stems so it looks like the bunch of flowers is held together by it.
6. The individual can decorate the background of the canvas however they would like.
 
Outcomes:
By doing this activity the participants achieved completing their own individual canvas.  This activity helped to achieve developing their creative skills by using different recycled materials such as egg boxes to make something completely different and nice looking.
Evaluation of activity from group:
As a group we thought that the activity went smoothly. We encountered a problem which was the glue took a while to dry and the egg boxes would not stick straight away so we have to wait a few minutes for it to dry before we could touch it. We were happy with the participants completed canvases and we thought that each participant enjoyed the activity.
