Bubble painting
Materials used:
Paint, plastic cups, straws, paper and washing up liquid.
Time plan:
Depending on how much colour you want to use it can take up to 30 minutes including setting it up.
Room and/or equipment requirements:
Best to be done on a table as you blowing into a cup so you need a flat surface.
General Aim of activity – What will the final outcome be? ie. ‘To make an aeroplane with cardboard’ box.
To create an image using bubbles from paint.
Specific Learning outcomes of the activity – What will be learned by doing the activity? Ie. ‘To use fine motor skills using the scissors’
How blowing bubbles can also create a colourful image.
Steps for making or doing activity:
Use images with short captions
1. Set up your materials
2. Put paint into a plastic cup and mix in some washing up liquid
3. Add some water into each plastic cup
4. Mix it all together with a straw
5. Slant the cup on a page and blow into the straw until it bubbles onto the sheet.
How will the children benefit from the activity?
Children will benefit from this activity as they are learning new creative skills and how to create new types of colourful images.

How would you adapt the activity to suit outside/inside?
Instead of using paper you could blow the bubbles onto a light coloured stone.
Simplify this activity:
Could use bubble mix and just put some paint in it.
Variations for the activity: How could you vary the activity? ‘Marbling using foam or egg whites instead’
You could use different colours of paint and make each colour either a weak colour or a strong colour.
