Crayon Melt Picture
The crayons are glued onto a canvas board with a hot glue gun or strong glue. The arrangement of the crayons can be in order of tone, colour or sequence. A hairdryer can be used at the hot setting to melt the crayons but a hot air gun is does an excellent job also. The melting of the crayons is not suitable for children to undertake due to safety, but could watch the process from a safe distance. The children and adults, love the flow of the hot wax and the way it settles and goes hard. Children can learn about the nature of materials.
Dialogue with the children can include: Discussion of wax melting, what else melts, why do things melt, what happens when it cools, Gravity, and the nature of colours.
The melted images can be used to make pictures of flowers like the picture above.
